What is a Policy?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Policy is a guideline for employees to follow in making decisions best for the Village of Mannville. It provides a framework for the delegation of decision making, eliminates misunderstandings, reduces uncertainties and enables goals and objectives to be met. Some latitude is allowed in decision making, dependent upon circumstances, otherwise it would be considered a rule or procedure. However, in making decisions, the intent of the policy must be followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the purpose of a Policy?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The policies are intended to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • promote common understanding of Council’s policy objectives<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • provide direction to allow Administration to meet council’s policy objectives<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • facilitate better and more timely decisions<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • ensure uniformity in the interpretation and implementation of policy<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • allow personnel to know what is expected of them<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • ensure that similar situations are handled consistently<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • promote delegation of decision making to the level that must face the problem or situation when it arises<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • encourage coordination and integration of actions and plans within and across functional areas and departments<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • address problems or situations that are repetitive or recurrin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
